The Qualification

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a broad range of tasks when repairing and maintaining the body of cars, heavy vehicles and other vehicles in the automotive service and repair sector. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.


The completion of this qualification enables an individual to apply for a Job in the automotive LVor HV Bady repairs or may move on to  AUR40216 – Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis


Note: Some assessment tasks are performed using an online learning computer and the Internet must be available for the student, and it is critical that students have basic computer skills.


Location of Training

Training will be delivered at UTA Institute of Technology, 58 Newlands Road, Reservoir, Victoria 3073. (Theory only) or online. (This course can be delivered by work based training) 

There is no government funded place for this program.

Study Mode and Duration

Face-to-face and online learning. Total of 110 hours will be delivered in 58 weeks (full-time) or 116 weeks (part-time) (Excluding public holidays)

Materials and PPE

Students must bring their own personal protection equipment to class. Personal protection equipment must include a minimum of: steel cap shoes, safety glasses and overall or equivalent.

Qualifications and Recognition

To achieve this qualification, you must successfully complete 31 units of competency 17 core units plus 14 elective units. On completion, you will be awarded the Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology.

Students who partly complete the program will be issued a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

UTA Institute of Technology recognises qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other registered training organisations under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

  • Entry Requirements and Identifying Learner Needs

    Completion of year 11 or equivalent. (Subject to the assessment and approval of UTA Institute of Technology Admission team.)

    English requirements: IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL PB 506, TOEFL IBT 62, PTE Academic 46, CAE & CPE (from
