This skill set covers the fundamental requirements for installing, servicing and repairing automotive LPG systems in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.
The completion of this qualification enables an individual to apply for an AFSACS Agreement with VicRoads– for an LPG AFSACS / licence.

Scheduled for 6 weeks of full-time study
Total of 115 hours, including 131 hours of self-study and assessment hours.
Students must bring their own personal protection equipment, and computer to the scheduled training session. Personal protection equipment must include a minimum of steel cap shoes, safety glasses, and overall or equivalent.

About AFSACS
On 1 January 2020, responsibility for regulating and supporting the alternative fuels industry transferred from the Automotive Alternative Fuels Registration Board (AAFRB) to VicRoads. On this page, you’ll find information about the VicRoads Alternative Fuel Systems Assessment and Certification Scheme AFSACS and the transition from the AAFRB.
This short course targets automotive mechanical and electrical technicians who require the skills and knowledge to install, service and repair LPG systems and components in an automotive workplace. With our automotive LPG training, the opportunities in the sector are wide. Our LPG training courses are designed by industry experts for career development. Students seeking to enrol in this course must meet the following requirements.
Students must compete at least year 11 in an Australian school (or any other native English-speaking country) or above to be able to complete the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Literacy and Numeracy requirements of this course.
Being employed in an automotive garage (full-time or part-time) and having access to workplace observation and supervision by a supervisor.
Possess a Certificate III, trade qualification or higher level qualification in Automotive.
Have at least one year of automotive industry experience and have current industry knowledge and skills in using automotive tools and equipment.
Be physically fit to fulfil the training and assessment requirements of this program.
*** Experienced mechanics carrying Certificate 3 in Automotive (or above) may apply to study two (2) units in LPG (AURTTL007 and AURTTL008) to satisfy the Road Worthiness LPG Tester Requirements. This is recognised by AFSACS as Accreditation, which allows an individual to carry out Service and Repairs (not include installation) LPG fuel systems on motor vehicles in Victoria registered workshops with VicRoads.
This course will cover the required knowledge and skills for the following:
Upon completion, students may be eligible to apply for Accreditation with the VicRoads Alternative Fuel Systems Assessment and Certification Scheme (AFSACS). The Accreditation allows an individual to become accredited with the AFSACS to carry out Installation, Service and Repairs on LPG fuel systems on motor vehicles. Businesses in Victoria wishing to work on vehicles fitted with gas fuel systems are required to have an AFSACS Agreement with VicRoads in place.

UTAIT provides the opportunity for students who apply to have Recognition of Prior Learning assessment, towards a qualification or units of competence for which they are enrolled in.
