AUR32416 – Automotive Refinishing Technology

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who paint, refinish, repair and maintain painted surfaces on a range of automotive vehicles, recreational vehicles and other vehicles in the automotive industry.

Spray Painters are responsible for applying spray paints on parts, metals, automobiles, etc., and executing associated tasks, including discussing painting project requirements with clients, Preparing the job site, applying primers, removing old paint, filling holes, matching colors, and cleaning tools and equipment

Qualification And Recognition

To achieve this qualification, you must successfully complete 30 units of competency. On completion, you will be awarded the Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology.

Students who partly complete the program will be issued a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

UTA Institute of Technology recognises qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other registered training organisations under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Entry Requirements

  • UTAIT offers this program as an assessment only pathway.
  • For Australian candidates: must have at least 3 years working experience in the auto body refurnishing industry.
  • For international candidates: must complete a formal training program in auto body refurnishing and have at least 1-year experience in the auto body refurnishing industry. Working experience must be after completing the formal training program

  10. AURVTP014 Colour match multi-layer and clear over base two-pack paints on vehicles and components
  11. AURVTP015 Match direct gloss solid paint colour on vehicles or components
  12. AURVTP017 Rectify and touch up vehicle paint faults using clear over base two-pack systems

  29. AURVTP026 Apply basic airbrush techniques to vehicle body panels
  30. AURVTN002 Carry out non-structural vehicle panel repairs

Assessment Methods

A combination of practical assessment and verbal and/or written test.

All assessment will be in English.

Material and Equipment That Students Must Provide

Students must have their own PPE, including a minimum of: steel cap shoes, safety glasses and overall or equivalent.
