                   COURSE OUTLINE AND GENERAL INFORMATION

The Qualification

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of tasks relating to servicing and repairing air conditioning components and systems of cars and heavy vehicles in an automotive service and repair business.

CareerPathways

The completion of this qualification enables an individual to apply for an AAC02 – Refrigerant handling licence – qualified persons (Automotive air conditioning licence).

Trainee Licence

A refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) trainee licence is required for a person who is handling refrigerant while undertaking training and/or assessment leading to a National Quality Council endorsed qualification in refrigeration and/or air conditioning, for the classroom and work-based training only.

                   COURSE OUTLINE AND GENERAL INFORMATION

Location of Training

Training will be delivered at UTA Institute of Technology, 58 Newlands Road, Reservoir, Victoria 3073.

There is no government funded place for this program.

Study Mode and Duration

Face-to-face and online learning. Total delivery of 300 hours will be delivered within 15 weeks (full-time) or 30 weeks (part time) (Excluding public holidays)

Materials and PPE

Students must bring their own personal protection equipment to class. Personal protection equipment must include a minimum of: steel cap shoes, safety glasses and overall or equivalent.

Qualifications and Recognition

To achieve this qualification, you must successfully complete 13 units of competency. On completion, you will be awarded the AUR20220-Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology -.

Students who partly complete the program will be issued a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

UTA Institute of Technology recognises qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other registered training organisations under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

AURTTA104 – Carry out servicing operations

AURAFA103 – Communicate effectively in an automotive workplace

Skill Set Target Group

The skill set targets automotive mechanical and electrical technicians who require the skills and knowledge to service, diagnose and repair, and retrofit and modify automotive air conditioning and HVAC systems in an automotive workplace. These units of competency are drawn from Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package and meet the needs of automotive mechanical and electrical technicians, after the completion of this skill set the trainees will receive awards for the statement of attainment, AURSS00044 – Vehicle Air Conditioning Service, Retrofit and Repair Skill Set

AURSS00044 – Vehicle Air Conditioning Service, Retrofit and Repair Skill Set 3 unit studies equivalent to 10 working days theory and practical classes

1- AURETU003  Service air conditioning and HVAC systems

2- AURETU004  Diagnose and repair air conditioning and HVAC systems

3- AURETU005  Retrofit and modify air conditioning and HVAC systems

Entry requirements:

  •  Completion of year 11 or equivalent. (Subject to the assessment and approval of UTA Institute of Technology Admission team.)

Possible Occupational Outcomes: 

Air conditioning technician, service and repairs heating and cooling air conditioning system for light and heavy vehicle, Require licence with ARC R134a Gas only.
