This skill set covers the fundamental requirements for installing, servicing and repairing automotive LPG systems in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.

    Many forklifts and heavy-duty machines rely on LPG to power daily operations. This course provides the specialist knowledge and practical skills needed to safely install, service, and repair LPG fuel systems in forklifts, ensuring both workplace efficiency and compliance with national safety requirements. Our training is aligned to AS/NZS 1425 – LP Gas fuel systems for vehicle engines and prepares you to meet licensing requirements across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and the Northern Territory.

Duration

Scheduled for 2 weeks of full-time study

Total of 105 hours, including 135 hours of self-study and assessment hours.

Course Overview

    • AURTTL008 – Diagnose and repair LPG fuel systems
    • AURTTL009 – Install LPG fuel systems
  • Duration: 2 weeks full-time (approx. 105 hours training + 30 hours self-study/assessments)
  • Assessment: Workbook, project, practical assessments, and verbal/written tests
  • Mode of Delivery: Face-to-face with hands-on training

Entry Requirements

To enrol, you must hold (or be undertaking) one of the following automotive Certificate III qualifications (or equivalent):

  • AUR30616 – Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology
  • AUR31916 – Certificate III in Automotive Diesel Engine Technology
  • AUR31116 – Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology
  • AUR31716 – Certificate III in Forklift Technology
  • AUR30316, AUR30416, AUR31216 – Other recognised automotive trades

On-Site Training Option

UTA Institute of Technology offers an on-site training program for approved workshops and large service centres, including forklift dealerships and heavy machinery repair facilities.

  • Workplace Assessment: Before training can take place, your workshop must undergo a suitability assessment by UTA Institute of Technology to ensure compliance with safety and training requirements.
  • Hands-On Delivery: Once approved, our qualified trainers will conduct the course directly at your site, giving your team practical, hands-on experience in their own work environment.
  • Business-Focused: This option is available to local domestic students employed by the same company where the training is delivered, making it ideal for businesses looking to upskill staff without disrupting daily operations.
  • Important Note: There is no online training available for this program. All delivery is face-to-face only to meet licensing, compliance, and safety requirements.

🔴 Important: This program is not open to engineering or machinist trades unless equivalence to an automotive Certificate III can be formally demonstrated.

Applicants must also:

  • Have at least 1 year of automotive industry experience
  • Be physically fit and competent in using automotive tools and equipment

Licensing & Accreditation

  • In Victoria, completion of this skill set allows you to apply for AFSACS (Alternative Fuel Systems Assessment and Certification Scheme) with VicRoads.
  • NSW, QLD, and NT regulators follow the same rules—licensing applies only to automotive trade-qualified individuals.
  • Graduates may become accredited to install, service, and repair LPG fuel systems in registered automotive workshops.
