 Course Overview

The AURSS00037 – Hybrid Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Set is drawn from the AUR Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package and reflects the real-world tasks performed by technicians working on hybrid vehicles.

Upon completion, students receive a Statement of Attainment that meets the requirements for inspecting and servicing HEV systems and components in the automotive retail, service, and repair industry.

 Skill Set Target Group

This course is ideal for:

  • Automotive mechanical and electrical technicians who work with or intend to work with hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs)
  • Qualified tradespeople seeking to upskill in hybrid technology
  • Workshop supervisors and inspectors responsible for hybrid fleet maintenance

The program equips you with the ability to:

  • Safely depower and reinitialise hybrid systems
  • Service, test, and maintain electrical components in HEVs
  • Understand high-voltage battery systems and safety protocols

Units of Competency

(3 Units – Approximately 65 Hours of Study over 5 Weeks)

  1. AURETH011 – Depower and reinitialise hybrid electric vehicles
  2. AURETH012 – Service and maintain electrical components in hybrid electric vehicles
  3. AURETH110 – Diagnose and repair high-voltage rechargeable energy-storage systems in hybrid electric vehicles

Training includes classroom theory, simulated exercises, and hands-on practical work using real-world tools and vehicles.

Learners should check the relevant state or territory automotive regulatory authority for current licensing obligations related to hybrid electric vehicle servicing and high-voltage safety.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet all mandatory entry requirements prior to enrolment:

1️⃣ Educational Qualification

  • Hold a Certificate III qualification from the AUR Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package, such as:
    • AUR30320 – Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology, or
    • AUR30620 – Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or equivalent trade qualification.

2️⃣ Employment & Experience

  • Must be employed (full-time or part-time) in an automotive garage or workshop.
  • Must have at least one year of automotive industry experience and current knowledge of automotive tools and equipment.

3️⃣ Pre-Training Review (PTR)

  • A Pre-Training Review will be completed at or before orientation to confirm suitability and learning needs.

4️⃣ Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)

  • All applicants must complete an LLN Assessment (Level 3 minimum) before commencing study.

5️⃣ Interview Requirement

  • Applicants may be required to attend an interview with UTAIT’s Admissions Team to assess readiness, motivation, and understanding of course expectations.

6️⃣ Physical Fitness

  • Students must be physically fit to safely meet training and assessment demands, including the handling of electrical tools and hybrid system components.

Duration and Delivery

This program is delivered over approximately 65 hours across five weeks (two days per week or equivalent).

Training includes:

  • Classroom learning and discussions
  • Practical demonstrations and workshop activities
  • Industry-aligned assessments and workplace observation

Students are encouraged to allow additional self-study time each week for reading, research, and online discussion.
